# How to Connect Claude AI to Your COUNT Workspace

You can connect COUNT directly to Claude using our COUNT MCP community connector. Once connected, Claude can help you interact with your accounting data using natural language, ask questions about your books, pull reports, create journal entries, and automate repetitive accounting workflows.

The COUNT connector also includes a `/count` skill that helps Claude understand how to work with your COUNT workspace. Whether you need quick answers about your financial data or want to streamline accounting workflows, connecting COUNT to Claude makes it easier to get things done without manually navigating through COUNT.

## What Can Claude Do with COUNT?
Once connected, Claude can help you:
* Ask questions about your books using natural language.
* Retrieve financial reports and accounting data.

* Run AI skills saved in your COUNT workspace.

For example, you can use the `/count` skill to ask:

You can also use Claude to ask questions about your financial data, retrieve reports, and perform accounting tasks within your authorized COUNT workspace.

## Requirements
Before connecting COUNT to Claude, make sure you have:
* A COUNT account with access to the workspace you want to connect.
* A Claude Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise subscription.
* Access to Claude through the web or desktop application.

## Steps to Connect COUNT to Claude
### Step 1: Install COUNT
The fastest way to connect COUNT to Claude is through the COUNT MCP community connector in Claude's directory.
1. Open the [COUNT MCP page in Claude](https://claude.ai/customize/connectors/id/count-mcp) using the Claude web or desktop application.
2. Click **Connect to Claude**.
The COUNT MCP connector will be added to your Claude account.

**Note:** The Community label means the connector has passed Anthropic's automated review but is published and maintained by COUNT, not Anthropic.

### Step 2: Authorize Your COUNT Workspace
The first time Claude uses COUNT, it will ask you to connect your account.
1. Click **Connect** when prompted.
2. Sign in to your COUNT account if you aren't already signed in.
3. On the consent screen, select the workspace(s) you want Claude to access.
4. Click **Allow access**.
5. You'll be returned to Claude, and your connection will be saved to your Claude account.

**Important:** COUNT can access the accounting data in the workspaces you authorize. This includes reading and writing data, so make sure you select the correct workspace(s).

### Step 3: Start Using COUNT with Claude
Once your workspace is connected, you can start interacting with your accounting data using the `/count` skill.
Open a new Claude chat and type `/count` followed by your request.
For example:

If you've authorized more than one COUNT workspace, Claude will ask which workspace you want to use before accessing your data.

You can also run AI skills saved in your COUNT workspace by name, such as `Pre-close QC`.

## Using COUNT with Claude Code
If you use Claude Code, you can connect COUNT directly through your project directory.
Run the following commands:

/plugin install count@count
```
Once installed, you can use the COUNT plugin within Claude Code.

## Prefer Not to Use the COUNT Plugin?
You can connect COUNT as a custom connector instead.
1. In Claude, go to **Settings → Connectors**.
2. Select **Add custom connector**.
3. Enter the following server URL:
`https://api.getcount.com/mcp`
4. Complete the connection and authorization process.

This option gives you access to COUNT's MCP tools without the additional `/count` skill.
## Managing Workspace Access
COUNT access is granted per workspace. Claude can only access the workspaces you authorize during the connection process.

If you authorize multiple workspaces, Claude will ask which one you want to use before accessing your accounting data.

To connect another workspace later, disconnect and reconnect COUNT in Claude, then select the additional workspace(s) on the consent screen.

## Important: Understanding Workspace Permissions
When you connect COUNT to Claude, you're granting access to the workspace(s) you authorize.
Depending on the permissions granted, Claude can read and write accounting data, including:
* Customers and vendors
* Invoices and bills
* Transactions
* Journal entries
* Budgets
* Financial reports
If you're connecting COUNT to Claude for the first time, we recommend using a test or demo workspace before connecting your live accounting data.

Always review requests and confirm actions carefully before allowing Claude to make changes to your books.

## Frequently Asked Questions
**Can I connect more than one COUNT workspace?**
* Yes. You can authorize multiple COUNT workspaces. If more than one workspace is connected, Claude will ask which workspace you want to use before accessing your data.
**Do I need to enter my COUNT server URL manually?**
* No. The COUNT MCP community connector handles the connection automatically. If you prefer not to use the plugin, you can add COUNT as a custom connector using `https://api.getcount.com/mcp`.
**Can Claude change my accounting records?**
* Yes. Depending on the permissions and tools available, Claude can perform actions such as creating invoices, changing transactions, and creating journal entries. Always review and confirm important actions.
**Can I use COUNT with Claude Code?**
