How to Run a Monthly Close in COUNT Practice Manager

Period Close in COUNT Practice Manager guides you through your recurring month-end, quarter-end, or year-end close from one workflow. You can:

  • Collect information from your client
  • Complete your workpapers
  • Generate a client report pack
  • Publish the report to your client

This article explains how to complete a Monthly Close after you've already configured your Close Template, Questionnaire Template, and Report Template.

Note: Before following these steps, make sure you've already configured Period Close. For setup instructions, see How to configure Period Close in COUNT Practice Manager.

Step 1: Open the Period Close

  1. Open Practice Manager.
  2. Open the Period Close tab.
  3. Either:
    • Click Start New Close to create a new period close, or
    • Select an existing Close Template from the list to open it.

Step 2: Review the client questionnaire

If your Close Template includes a questionnaire, it is automatically sent to the client when the Period Close is created.
If your client hasn't been invited to the Client Portal, click Invite to allow them to access the questionnaire and upload any requested documents.

Once the client has submitted their questionnaire, open the Questionnaire workpaper to review their responses. From here, you can:

  • View the status of each question.
  • Review the client's responses.
  • Open uploaded documents, such as bank statements.
  • Mark the questionnaire as complete once you've reviewed the responses.

Step 3: Complete workpapers

Complete each workpaper included in your Period Close. The workpapers available depend on how your Close Template is configured and may include reconciliation, importing transactions, financial review, variance analysis, journal review, or other custom workpapers.

Mark each workpaper as Complete before continuing.

Step 4: Generate the Report Pack

After completing the required workpapers:

  1. Click Generate Report Pack, located just below Workpapers.
  2. Review the generated report.
  3. Add any notes if required.

Depending on your Report Template, the Report Pack may include financial reports, custom sections, firm branding, and other information.
You can also add notes to individual report sections before publishing.

Step 5: Submit the report for review

Once you've reviewed the Report Pack:

  1. Click Submit for Review.
  2. Complete your firm's internal review process.
  3. After approval, publish the Report Pack to your client.

Your client will receive the completed Report Pack and can review the results of the completed Period Close.
